Zermatt

Zermatt doesn’t need selling as it is one of those rare resorts that sells itself so easily. Little wonder then that so many seasonaires return here year on year.  It has everything you could want from a season in the snow. Firstly the skiing- it boasts an enviable snow record and at 3,880m for the highest point serviced by a lift, it can confidently claim to be the highest ski resort in the whole of Europe. The riding is varied with over 300km of pistes when combined with Cervinia on the Italian side, something that all of our staff always love. Both Zermatt and Cervinia have good snow parks: Zermatt’s is being improved every year and Cervinia’s hosts many competitions and has jumps from ‘beginner’ to ‘don’t do this if you have any kind of pre-existing heart condition’.  The slopes are well looked after and have a wide variety that cater for all tastes and ability levels. With the glacier, even in April, the snow is perfect with wide blue and red runs to carve down. Over in the central area of Gornergrat, the blues have lots of little jumps, kicks and pops off the sides of the pistes to practice your jibbing and improve your skills without being in the park.

Down in the town, you have a classic appeal of a beautiful traffic-free resort mixed with a vibrant seasonaire community. From live music and seasonaire pub quizzes, to the Luttman Johnson competition, 3 legged races through the town and other events organised by the local bars, ski schools, Ski Club of Great Britain or Natives, you’re never short of something to do.

And this is all topped off by the inimitable Matterhorn.  The most photographed mountain in the world and deservedly so. We defy you to do a season in Zermatt and still not be in awe of it at the end of April. There’s also several airbags around resort so be sure to get a picture of you jumping, flipping or just plain old falling over the Matterhorn before you leave.

Each resort is different and in every resort you’ll have an amazing time. But Zermatt really is a magical resort that people are drawn to. If you do a season here, beware, as it may not be your last...
